![]() ![]() The story is linear for the first half of “Bullet in the Brain” then it goes back and tells of the moments in the character’s life that lead to that titular moment. The story structure of “Bullet in the Brain” feels more streamlined when compared to “The Point” because it is a direct short story. Also, this is done through the use of a third-person point of view in “Bullet in the Brain” opposed to the use first-person in “The Point”. It introduces the reader to the main character then jumps straight into the main part of the story. However, this method of storytelling does not allow the reader to become a part of the story like “The Point” does. “Bullet in the Brain” is a short story that is more focused and does not allow for much of anything outside of the main characters story. In summation, the story structure of “The Point” offers more exposition, characters, and elements in its story but lacks the impact that “Bullet in the Brain” has on the reader. The story can sometimes seem less focused, but there is a method to the madness. The story may diverge into new subject matter now and then, but it always comes back to offer new insight into Kurt’s character. Gurney, and Kurt’s relationship with the drunken townspeople that he helps. ![]() ![]() “The Point” has story elements concerning Kurt and his mother, Kurt dealing with his father’s suicide, Kurt’s encounter with Mrs. Crutchfield. Also, “The Point” has more story elements compared to “Bullet in the Brain”. Kurt will think back to different moments in his life, and the story gives more background information on characters such as Mrs. Therefore, the story allows for more background on the characters and more moments that break away from the main story. “The Point” is a longer story and gives more exposition throughout. ![]()
